Objects are things that have a catalogue entry rather than an outline you draw: furniture, stones, plants. This lesson places one and adjusts it.
Pick a band
Objects go on Structures (stones), Plants and Light objects (furniture, fire). Select the tab first — an object cannot be dropped on the terrain or paths bands, which are drawn rather than populated.
Place one
- Click Place object on the tool rail. The library opens, with the categories that band is about first and a search box for everything else.
- Click an object. The dialog closes and the pointer is armed with it — the rail says Placing bench.
- Click the plan, or click the ground in the 3D view. The object lands there, standing on whatever the terrain does at that spot.
- Press Esc or click the rail's label to stop placing.
Below the Place object button, the rail keeps a quick-pick strip of the band's most useful objects, so a second bench is one click.
Adjust it
Select the object and look at the sidebar:
- Size — width, depth and height, or a single size for objects that scale evenly. Defaults come from the catalogue.
- Rotation — turn it with the transform handle, or type degrees.
- Placement — Sink into ground beds a boulder in; Raise off ground floats a deck plank. Fixed altitude pins its floor to an altitude regardless of what the terrain does.
- Ground — whether the terrain runs under it or is cut away inside its walls, for something sunk in.
Some objects have their own properties — a bench's slats, a tree's spread — which appear above the size.
Move, copy, hide
Drag it like any shape; ⌘D duplicates; the eye in its row hides it. The Layers menu in the top bar hides every object at once while you work on the ground.
