Organise shapes in the sidebar

start here

Name shapes, hide and lock them, gather them into folders, and set which draws on top of which.

5 min · organise the plan

A plan with forty shapes called Rectangle 12 is hard to work on. The shapes list on the right is where a plan gets its names and its order.

The list

Under the band tabs, every shape on the selected band has a row. Click a row to select it on the plan; the plan and the list always agree.

Rename

Double-click a name, or choose Rename from the row's ⋯ menu. Terrace, Pond, East bed — the names show up in measurements, in the 3D view's tabs, and in the photorealistic render, where they help the AI understand what it is looking at.

Hide and lock

  • The eye on a row hides that shape from the plan and the 3D view. It is still in the model.
  • Lock in the ⋯ menu keeps it drawn but out of reach, so nothing you do on the plan can move it. A locked shape can still be selected from the list to read its details.

Folders

Select several shapes and click Group into a folder on the rail (⌘G), or use + Group in the band heading and drag rows into it. A folder has its own eye, padlock and opacity, inherited by everything inside, and folders nest. Ungroup drops the folder and leaves its contents on the plan.

Components

A folder can be made a component: one thing on the plan, so clicking any part of it selects all of it, and double-clicking opens it for editing with the rest of the plan faded back. A bench with its paving, a pond with its stepping stones — anything that moves together.

Stacking order

When shapes overlap, the one higher in the list draws on top. Bring forward and Send backward in the ⋯ menu move a shape one place. The bands stack in a fixed order regardless: terrain under everything, light objects over everything.
