Annotate with pins

start here

Drop labelled markers with a comment or an altitude, so notes and levels stay on the plan instead of in your head.

4 min · measure and annotate

A pin is a note standing on the plan: a label, a comment, and optionally an altitude. This lesson drops a few.

Drop a pin

  1. With nothing selected, click Pin / comment in the plan's top-right toolbar, or press N.
  2. Click the plan where the note belongs. The pin is placed and selected.
  3. In the sidebar, give it a labelManhole, Existing oak, Drain here — and a comment underneath for anything longer.

Pins appear on the plan and in 3D as markers with their label, on whichever band you drop them on. They stay out of the photorealistic render.

Note an altitude

Click Add altitude on a selected pin and type a level. Use it for survey points — +0.32 at the house threshold, −0.15 at the gate — so the numbers that drive the terrain are written where they were measured. Remove altitude takes it off again.

Move, hide, delete

Drag a pin like any shape. The Layers menu in the top bar hides every pin at once. Delete removes one; ⌘Z brings it back.

Site photos

The tool next to the pin, Scene photo (K), marks where a photograph was taken and which way it faced: click the plan, upload the photo, and drag the round grip to aim it. The photorealistic render picks those photos up by itself whenever the view they cover is in shot, and uses them as the truth for surfaces and surroundings — so a walk round the site with a phone, dropping a scene photo at each stop, is time well spent before rendering.
