Save camera angles

pradedantiesiems

Capture named viewpoints of the 3D view, set a focus point to orbit around, and save a still of any of them.

5 min · present the site

An orbit you found once is worth keeping. This lesson saves views as named angles and comes back to them.

Compose a view

In the 3D view, drag to orbit, Shift-drag or right-drag to pan, scroll to zoom. Reset the camera in the corner returns to the home framing if you lose the site.

Focus point makes orbiting precise: click the button, click a point in the view — the terrace, say — and the camera now orbits and zooms around that point rather than the middle of the site. Click the button again to clear it.

Save an angle

  1. Above the 3D view is a row of tabs. Click + to save the current view as a new angle.
  2. Type a name — From the house, Down the slope — and press Enter. Double-click a tab to rename it later.
  3. Orbit away, then click the tab: the view flies back to it.

When you have moved the view since applying an angle, an update button lights up on its tab; click it to overwrite that angle with the current framing. The delete button removes one.

Angles are saved with the model, so whoever opens it finds the same shots.

Save a still

Save this view as a PNG image in the 3D view's corner downloads the frame as you see it. The plan has the same button for a drawing.

Lighting and quality

The cog beside them turns shadows on and sets quality. High quality with shadows is the one for a still; low is fine while orbiting on a laptop.
